The contest is a “dream” contest. Participants from across the country submitted their respective stories and five finalists were picked.

Leah’s story is an inspiring one. She was looking for a magazine that “spoke” to young Jewish girls. She wasn’t able to find one. So, she created one! In a day and age when American youth is written off as lazy and unproductive, Leah’s story is inspiring, whether you are Jewish or not. The “dream” that apparently ran second to Leah’s was a dream to become a physical therapist. Surely, we wouldn’t say that only fans of physical therapy should have voted for that story.

Ummm, I’m not sure that we’re allowed to gather votes for her in this manner. why are these votes going through? because she’s Jewish? Would you object to this if an African-American started to gather votes in the same manner. Probably.

I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with canvassing for votes in this manner. I just meant that any such canvassing should be done among her magazine’s FANS, not among members of her ethnic or other such grouping. thanks.

Thank you so much for spreading the word about this. Due to Shabbat and the chagim of Tishrei, observant Jews get 15 fewer days to vote and campaign for Leah, out of about 45 total days of the contest. (Voting closes 11/10/08)
